Hope your Monday is going well … Got to love those days where you have a plan and priorities set, then that stuff gets pushed for what’s not on the plan is is now higher priority. :)
Had a couple of nice surprises over the weekend … I found out that the image of the Brooklyn Bridge that placed in a local photography competition won first in architecture. I also had an image that I had submitted in the wedding category selected as an honorable mention for an extended gallery in the exhibit. That one, I didn’t know about at all until Friday. Not that it means anything, but it’s still fun! If you live in the Northwest Arkansas Area, you can see both at the exhibit at the Art Center of the Ozarks in Springdale, AR. The exhibit ends Sept 10.
Thought I would share a few images that had been kickin’ around on my hard drive. Death by hard drive is no way to go. :) ~Joshua

Saw this on my way into the office this morning. I had taken a pic on the other side of the building and didn’t put my phone up. When I rounded the corner, I saw the light streaming in from the side and thought, “This is MUCH better.” I tried to be as quick as I could. Figured I’d start to raise suspicions of my intent if I just started taking a lot of pictures of the site of tech building.
TIP:To greatly improve the quality of your iPhone pics, bring up your camera and instead of tapping the display, hold the camera button down, and release the button to fire the shutter. When I took this picture, I just stood like I was fiddling with my phone, held the shutter button down, then raised the phone and let off the shutter in less than a second. Nice and quick. :) Plus, it reduces camera shake, providing a clearer image (compared to an iPhone pic, anyway).
Shot taken with an iPhone 3G; effects added in TiltShiftGen app.
Take care ~ Joshua

We, like most of the country, are right in the middle of another heat wave. I miss the rain … .

Happy Wednesday! Been a little slow to post. It’s been INCREDIBLY hot here (100+ deg) and I just haven’t mustered up the desire to go out and shoot.
This last Saturday we celebrated my 30th birthday! I had some friends from college in town, and they brought their adorable kiddos with them.
Got little ones? Get some high quality photographs before they’re off at college asking you for more money! ;) Drop me a line and let’s set something up!

I was digging through images on my iPhone and came across this one today. Light is coming from a huge window behind me. Shot with an iPhone 3G, effects added in Mill Colour, Camera Bag, and Photogene.

An old climbing buddy of mine was down from NYC this weekend and competed in a Shark Triathlon at Rogers, AR, and asked me to come along and take photographs. I’d never shot a Triathlon before. I have the upmost respect for those who shoot sports. It’s difficult! Light was harsh and challenging, the action is fast moving and you have to know where to position yourself to get the best shot. It was a great experience!
Have an event coming up that you needs photo coverage? Drop me a line and I’ll work up a quote for you!
Enjoy the pics and have a great Monday!

Thank goodness it’s Friday! It’s been a heck of a week! Weekend will be busy as well. The wife and I will be heading to Tulsa to celebrate a mutual friend’s birthday. Part of that stop will be at the Tulsa Aquarium so potential photo opp there. Hadn’t shot through glass much, so that’ll be a challenge, I’m sure. :)
The this Sunday I’ll be shooting photos of a friend who’s completing in a Triathlon. I’m sure it’ll be a huge learning experience. I’ve never been to a triathlon before. I’ll have no clue where to stand to get a good shot. Challenge Accepted!
In any event, here are some pictures of my friend Ben’s sweet Vinage Ford Tractor. (He’s the same guy who has the climbing gym at his house.) Hope you guys have a good week!

Highwire on the Brooklyn Bridge; © Joshua Segraves; 2009
I got a bit of a pleasant surprise this afternoon. A photo that I had submitted was picked as a finalist in the Fall Fair Photography Competition in the Architecture category! The photo that placed was the above shot while I was visiting a good friend last fall who relocated to New York. It was one of many photos that I took on the Brooklyn Bridge. I’m not really sure why I chose to submit this one. Probably all of the converging lines (which I have a bit of a thing for. Check out my Blogroll and you’ll see that it’s a recurring theme in the photography I like).
The competition was a print competition so the above picture was printed 8”x12” on metallic paper (which was SWEET) by a really high quality printer. I was very pleased with the sample that I turned in.
The print will be displayed at the Bentonville and Washington county fairs as well as an extended exhibit of the top 100 images at the Art Center of the Ozarks in Springdale, AR.
The winner of the category and the overall competition will be announced at a special reception August 19th at the Art Center of the Ozarks in Springdale, AR.
The print will be available for sale at the Art Center of the Ozarks, with proceeds going to ACO, the competition committee (to pay for framing and matting of next year’s entries) and myself. :)
I’d love to win the category, but honestly, I’m just happy to be a part of the party. It’ll be a lot of fun!
